GENES & GENEALOGY

Research

  • To get started, we will locate your ancestor in Sweden prior to emigrating.
To do this we need all the information that you have wether it may be birth date and place, emigration/immigration information, parents' names and birth dates etc., anything and everything that you may have will make the search easier.

  • When we have found your ancestor you will receive information to help you decide how you want to proceed.
It is impossible to say how long this will take, some are found quickly and some take more time to find as the name your ancestor used in the new country may be very different from the name he/she was given in Sweden.

  • I will then do the research and send you the information in a report with explanations and translation, where needed, as well as copies of the documents found.

Genealogy services start at SEK650/hour.

Archival documents

Genealogical research can give a very good picture of what life was like for your ancestors. Below are the different types of books that I use for my research.

  • Parish books (Husförhörslängder/Församlingsböcker)
  • Moving in and out books (In- och utflyttningslängder)
  • Birth and baptism books (Födelse- och dopböcker)
  • Confirmation and communion books (konfirmations- och kommunionlängder)
  • Banns and Marriage books (Lysnings- och vigselböcker)
  • Death and burial books (Död- och begravningsböcker)

These are the basic books that I use daily when researching. Depending on what information I find there I go on to look at maps, property documents, find grave stones and other historical documents that are relevant to document the life of a long lost ancestor.

Arkiv Digital

Arkiv Digital, a software tool containing more than 87 million photographed parish books etc lets us find information from all over Sweden. But documents 70 years or younger are kept secret due to privacy restrictions.

Riksarkivet

The Swedish National Archives hold the documents that were previously kept in the parishes.

These documents have been photographed for Arkiv Digital, as well as many more that have not, yet, been photographed.
